Minutes for chapter meeting on 1-9-12.
Members present: Dave Kaeding, Jeff Blackford, Ralph & Cheri Esgar, Jeff Polson, Fred Magers, Todd Lee, Dennis Lee, Matt Scudder, Brandon Magers, Ben Magers. The state PF conference will be held Jan 20 & 21 at the Par-A-Dice hotel in East Peoria. A meet and greet will be held from 5pm to 11pm on Friday the 20 th, registration from 8am to 9am on Saturday the 21 st with sessions through the day and an awards banquet to follow. Several individuals prominent in PF will be inducted into the Pheasants Forever Hall of Fame at the state PF conference. This is the first year for the Hall of Fame. Gerry Rodeen will be honored with his induction into the PF Hall of Fame for his work in the National PF organization and the Pioneer Chapter. A Young Guns Event will be held on February 4 th at Bachman’s. Weather permitting, Indoor and Outdoor shooting will be offered to youth in attendance. Watch for details in the near future. Dick Wyatt passed along that a Controlled Burn School will be offered the last weekend in March in Stephenson Co. 30 spots are available at $130 per person, contact Dave Kaeding or Dick Wyatt (217-369-8644) for more information. Fred & Brandon Magers are taking NRA classes to get the necessary qualifications to launch the High School shooting program. These classes are necessary for the adults instructing the kids on proper shooting techniques. Several people are needed to meet the minimum student number for the class, if you are interested contact Fred Magers. Discussed the PF chapter hosting a Fish Fry at Loda Sportsmen Club. The Fish Fry would benefit the LSC to thank them for all the help with youth events and chapter meetings through the year. The Fish Fry was scheduled for March 15 th. A gun raffle is currently underway by the Young Guns. A Tri-Star Hunter EX Synthetic - Camo 12 ga. over and under will be drawn on March 3 rd. Contact anyone in the chapter if you would like to buy tickets, all proceeds support the high school shooting program. National Pheasant Fest is February 17, 18 & 19 in Kansas City, Missouri. One of our Laser Shot systems will be trucked to the event by Kevin Bachman. The Chapter’s banquet is scheduled for Saturday March 17, 2012 at the Roberts Gym. The state PF conference was held Jan 20 & 21 at the Par-A-Dice hotel in East Peoria. The Pioneer Chapter was well represented by 15 members in attendance at the Saturday evening banquet. Fred Magers received the Conservation Educator of the year award at the conference, congratulations to Fred for this much deserved award. Gerry Rodeen was the first inductee into the Forever Hall of Fame. Three additional PF individuals were also inducted and spoke of the influence Gerry had on them and the organization. Pheasants Forever President Howard Vincent described Gerry’s passion and contributions to the organization and presented Gerry’s sisters Becky and Beth with the plaque commemorating his induction. It was clear that Gerry was truly a Pioneer for Pheasants Forever locally and nationally and set the bar high for those to follow. A Young Guns Event will be held on February 4 th at Bachman’s. Indoor and Outdoor shooting will be offered to youth in attendance. Attractions will include BB gun targets, Laser Shot, Archery Target Shooting, Fishing Simulator, Sporting Clay Target Shoot. Volunteers are welcome to help setup and host the event. Setup times are Friday at 6 pm and Saturday at 8 am. The activities will start at noon on Saturday the 4 th. Contact Fred for more information if you would like to help. Dave Kaeding discussed making Jeff Blackford and Fred Magers Co-Youth Coordinators. Members in attendance discussed the issue and agreed to make this official. The instructor of the class will be at LSC on the evening of Friday February 10 th and the morning of Saturday February 11 th to conduct the course. If you are interested in attending the class, contact Fred Magers. National Pheasant Fest is February 17, 18 & 19 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Magers will take a group of kids to the event to participate in the Youth Village at Pheasant Fest. The Laser Shot and Fishing Simulator systems will be trucked to the event by Kevin Bachman. A motion was made to pay for the kids and Magers travel and hotel expenses to attend Pheasant Fest. Dennis Lee first the motion and Scoot second, the motion passed unanimously. The Bachman’s expenses are paid by National Pheasants Forever. Todd Coe and Scoot Landrus will be taking over as Co-Habitat Coordinators from Mike Frichtl. Minutes for chapter meeting on 1-10-11. The state PF conference will be held Jan 21 & 22 at the Par-A-Dice hotel in East Peoria. The kids saw birds, one lucky hunter bagged a bird. Chili was provided for the cold hunters. A Young Guns Event was discussed for some time in Feb. or March. Watch for details in the near future. The Chapter’s banquet is scheduled for Saturday March 19, 2011 at the Roberts Gym. Discussed a few ideas for new games and money making ideas for this years banquet. Discussed changes to the Banquet Program, including guns on hand and to be ordered, and any changes in the games and raffles offered. National Pheasant Fest is January 28, 29 & 30 in Omaha, Nebraska. Indoor Youth Event will be held on March 6 th at Kevin Bachman’s Farm. Start time will be around noon, look for event and registration information at the Young Guns website. Several chapter members attended the state PF conference held on Jan 21 & 22 at the Par-A-Dice hotel in East Peoria. Our chapter was awarded the 2010 Master Mentors Award for most youth in programs reported by Illinois chapters. In addition, several talks were very informative in the afternoon breakout sessions. The chapter contributed $1000 to the Legislative Action Fund to support CRP at the national level. Chris Engelbrecht will receive the National Award for Green Manufacturing from the National Assoc. of Trailer Manufactures (PPG). Chris will receive a $5000 prize that must be donated to a non-profit organization. Chris has graciously selected Illinois Pioneer PF to be the recipient of the award to help fund habitat and youth activities by the chapter. Chris and Dave Kaeding will fly to Albuquerque, NM to receive the award on February 23 rd. Dennis Lee motioned to pay $1000 each of Dave and Chris’s expenses toward the trip. Ed Kallal seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Discussed the banquet scheduled for Saturday March 19, 2011 at the Roberts Gym. Topics included number of guns on hand, setup of the gym, liquor license, donation list, framing list & mailings. Several members will be leaving for National Pheasant Fest on Thursday the 27 th. Pheasant Fest is January 28, 29 & 30 in Omaha, Nebraska. One of our Laser Shot systems will be trucked to the event by Kevin Bachman to be included in the youth activity area at the event. Mike Frichtl requested that silent auction items be accompanied with the silent auction sheet with the information filled out by each recipient. Mike also has a list of trees available, let Mike know if you would like to order trees this year. Chapter members will cook for the Sportsman Club on Thursday February 17 th. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 2 nd at the Loda Sportmens Club, envelopes will be stuffed for this year’s banquet mailing. The membership will be raffled for $10 per ticket or 3 tickets for $20. A short presentation honoring Gerry’s impact on the Pioneer Chapter and his passion for Pheasants Forever will be held during the banquet. Minutes for chapter meeting on 3-7-11. Members present: Dave Kaeding, Mike Frichtl, Ralph & Cheri Esgar, Jeff Polson, Fred Magers, Todd Lee, Matt Scudder, Kurt Smith, Ed Kallal, Wade Rueck, Ben Magers, Dane Kief, Dave Foster, Ben Coulter, Dan Coulter, Kirsten Blackford, Everett Landrus. Dave Kaeding reviewed his trip with Chris Engelbrecht to receive the National Award for Green Manufacturing from the National Assoc. of Trailer Manufactures (PPG). Dave described the event and mentioned that an interview with the local paper will highlight the award. The Youth Event held on March 6 th at Kevin Bachman’s Farm was a great success. 115 kids and 310 people total attended the event. BB-gun target shooting, bow & arrow target shooting, fishing simulator and the Laser Shot system highlighted the activities available to the kids. Lunch was provided to everyone in attendance. Thanks to everyone and especially the Bachman’s for making this event a success. Discussed the banquet scheduled for Saturday March 19, 2011 at the Roberts Gym. Topics included gun assignments to raffles and games, setup of the gym, game assignments, donation list, Young Guns & Rodeen video, framing list & mailings. Doors will open at 4 pm (one half hour earlier than last year) the meal will be served at 6 pm. One or two gun card raffles will be held before dinner. At least 26 guns will be given away at this year’s banquet. Dave mentioned he was contacted by National Pheasants Forever to talk about our youth program to other interested chapters. Dave Kaeding and Fred Magers would talk to the group in July in Northeastern Minnesota. Dave discussed plowing the snow in the Sportsmen Club driveway for a chapter meeting. Dave Foster motioned to cover the $200 charge and Scoot seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously. Mike Frichlt reported on a fund raiser at the Sparta Shooting Complex on Saturday April 9 th. Registration is $60 per person which includes a meal. Contact Mike at 217-841-6348 for information. Banquet setup will be on Friday March 18 th at 5pm and continue on Saturday morning, the 19 th, at 8am. Lunch will be in Melvin at Bubba’s Bar and Grill. Andy Bennett will be having back surgery on Wednesday March 9 th. Keep Andy in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Reviewed the Banquet – 342 people attended, this was the third largest banquet in chapter history behind 2009 and 2010. Overall banquet went very well. Discussed banquet items such as; meal went well and very good, big improvement from last year, Roberts Gym layout was good, silent auction had some confusion, live auction items went well, ladies and youth giveaways could be broken up maybe during the live auction. More advertising was suggested. Overall the banquet went well it was better organized and had less cramped conditions. Have roughly 170 memberships including 56 sponsors. Due to pre-payment of membership fees, we can have up to 205 members for no additional cost. It was suggested to offer memberships to some folks that help with events and youth activities through the year. Names and addressed are needed by the end of this week. Discussed future work on the Coe Project. Areas need to be mowed or burned by April 15 th. Dennis Lee said a burn plan needs to be in place by December 1 st of 2011 for the DNR to help conduct a burn next spring. Dean Blackford discussed drainage work that is needed at the Herschel Workman site. He will check into details. Last year roughly $21,500 was spent on habitat projects and $15,500 on youth programs. The gross youth expenditure was significantly higher, however, donations to youth activities brought this figure down. Traci Wise motioned to keep the same officers for the upcoming year. Dean Blackford second and the motion carried. Mike Frichtl will resign as habitat chairman after this year. The next meeting will be the third Monday of May (the 16 th) at the Loda Sportsmans Club. A Hunter Safety Course will be held Friday and Saturday May 20 th and 21 st. Fred Magers discussed the purchase of a new 24’ Trailer for Young Guns items. This will make storage and hauling of items much better. A rabbit thrower was purchased on a grant from National Pheasants Forever. Also, a shell reimbursement plan was discussed. The chapter will be reimbursed one box of shell for every two boxes purchased. This will run 10 years. A gun raffle was discussed to be held starting soon. Also, Dave mentioned that Ford Co. Crimestoppers donated $1500 to the chapter. He, Brandon Magers and Emily St. Peter spoke at the Crimestoppers meeting. Mike Frichtl mentioned that a PF trailer was missing for the High School. And the tree planter can’t be located. If anyone knows whereabouts of these items, please contact one of the chapter officers. Friday June 3 rd is the date for a Ladies Shoot and Sunday June 5 th a Youth Shoot, both held at the Loda Sportsmans Club. Watch for details on the website. The Fishing Derby is scheduled for the July 17 th at Dan Rogers west of Loda. Gwen Kold with the Federal Fish and Wildlife Department visited the Coe property. She was very positive about working to enhance the habitat on the property. Traci Wise has been in the hospital for several days. Fred Magers motioned get the Wise Family gift certificates to help with meals during the difficult time. Jeff Polson second and the motion passed unanimously. Chapter officers will get gift certificates from local businesses for $300.

Brandon Magers discussed the Young Guns Program with a group in Mclean Co. The Laze Shot System was present at the meeting. Minutes for meeting on 7-18-11. Members present: Dave Kaeding, Todd Coe, Jeff Blackford, Ed Kallal, Todd Lee, Doug Tucker, Mike Frichtl, Jeff Polson, Dennis Lee, Fred Magers, Kirsten Blackford, Brandon Magers, Emily St. Peter, Eric Swenson. The Ryan Coe Fishing Derby was held on July 17 th west of Loda. 157 kids participated in the event with roughly 400 people served for supper. Everyone enjoyed the day despite the heat. Dave Kaeding and Fred Magers will attend the ‘Focus on Forever’ meeting in Lanesboro, MN from 7-22 to 7-24. This event will focus on the Youth Programs through PF chapters. The Lazer Shot system will be at the State Fair and/or the Rantoul Tractor Show. Details and schedules for the events will be discussed further. The new trailer was discussed; Fred Magers bought shelving for the trailer to help organize items stored in the trailer. The food plot/nesting cover program was discussed. The chapter has supported food & nesting plots on land owner’s property at a $150 per acre for several years. Mike Frichtl motioned to suspend the chapter cost share program for food & nesting cover plots. Doug Tucker first and Jeff Blackford second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Adjourned |
Minutes for meeting on 9-19-11. Members present: Dave Kaeding, Mike Frichtl, Ralph & Cheri Esgar, Jeff Polson, Jeff Blackford, Brandon Magers, Fred Magers. Approximately 40 ladies attended the Young Guns Ladies Pistol Shoot on 8-26 and approximately 80 kids attended the Young Guns Shooting Event on 8-28. The events went well and the participant enjoyed the experience gained. The chapter had the Laser Shot systems at the State Fair in Conservation World. Roughly $4000 was raised for the chapter with the proceeds from the Laser Shot and a gun raffle. Thanks goes out to everyone who volunteered time to run the Laser Shot systems during the fair. Several chapter members attended the McClean Co PF banquet. The Young Guns Trailer and Laser Shot system was taken to the event. Upcoming Events: September 24 th – Josh Cushman benefit from 4 to 7 pm on N Sangamon St in Gibson City. October 7 th and 8 th – A Hunter Safety Course will be held at Kevin Bachman’s Farm. Hours – Friday the 7 th -6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Saturday the 8 th - 8 am to 4 pm. Call IDNR at 217-784-4730 ext 223 to register. October 15 th & 16 th - Openhouse /Family Day at Green Acre Sportman’s Club. Several activities are planned to entertain the kids and enjoy outdoor activities. October 29 th & 30 th – Youth Hunt at Green Acres Hunt Club. The event may be only one day depending on the number of kids that register. Pre-Pheasant Opener Event – November 4 th at Loda Sportsmens Club. Chili dinner, trap shooting, gun giveaway. The group discussed the banquet package and purchase of several guns for the upcoming banquet. Fred Magers discussed the Trap & Skeet Club sponsored by the Young Guns Program and the Loda Sportsman’s Club. Roughly 12 to 15 high school age kids shoot competitively every Wednesday night at the Loda Sportsman’s Club starting at 7 pm. Minutes for meeting on 11-21-11. Members present: Dave Kaeding, Ralph Esgar, Jeff Polson, Josh Polson, Todd Coe, Fred Magers, Ben Magers, Rusty Barker, Dana Barker. The Pre-Pheasant Opener Event – was held on November 4 th from 4 to 8 pm at Loda Sportsmen Club. Chili, trap shooting, Benelli Nova gun raffle were the main attractions. We had a modest turnout for the event, the Chapter cleared several hundred dollars. Dana Barker was presented with a Benelli Nova shotgun at the meeting. Dana was the lucky winner of the gun raffle held this fall. Dana’s name was drawn at the Pre-Pheasant Opener Event. Congratulations to Dana. The high school shooting program was discussed. The Pioneer Chapter is sponsoring a competitive shooting program for high school kids. Fred Magers reported the program is costing the chapter about $260 per week. He felt that additional sponsors are needed to allow the program to continue into the long term. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Fred. Fred mentioned that the chapter has Sunset Creek Pork Back Ribs for sale to support our youth activities. Contact Fred to try some ribs for the holidays and support the Young Guns Program. The next youth events were discussed. Two events were considered for the period of December through March. Watch the Young Guns website for details. The Chapter Banquet will be held on March 17, 2012 at the Roberts Gym. 2012 IL State PF Meeting at the Par-A-Dice Hotel, Peoria. The meeting is January 20-21, 2012. The National Pheasant Fest will be held in Kansas City, Mo on February 17, 18 & 19. Our next chapter meeting will be on January 9 th, 2012. Have a happy holiday season and good luck in the field.
